Dave's Debut Album, 'Psychodrama' Wins This Year's Mercury Prize
Fellow British-Nigerian rapper, Little Simz was also shortlisted
Considered the music equivalent of the Booker Prize for literature, the Mercury Prize is one of the most prestigious music prizes in the UK, awarded to the best album released in the UK by a British or Irish artist, and this year, it was awarded to British-Nigerian rapper, Dave for Psychodrama.
A couple of months ago, the Hyundai Mercury Prize revealed their shortlisted candidates for this year's award — a competitive list which included British-Nigerian rappers, Dave and Little Simz, as well as The 1975, NAO, slowthai and a bunch of other acclaimed artists.
Though all nominees took home trophies back in July, Dave has now been awarded a slightly bigger trophy and a £25,000 cash prize, thanks to the undeniable merits of his fantastic debut album, Psychodrama, which was well-received by music critics and fans alike.
So far, Psychodrama has aslo been incredibly successful — going straight to number one in the UK charts and attaining a Gold Certification only three months after its release. With this illustrious prize under his belt, Dave adds to the flurry of praise he has been receiving since March 8.
