Ayomide Bello Wins Nigeria’s First Gold Medal At An International Water Sports Event
Since the Nigeria Rowing, Canoe and Sailing Federation (NRCSF) was formed, the country has never finished tops in an international outdoor water sports competition. That was until Sunday when Ayomide Bello won a gold medal at the Open International Canoe Sprint Competition.
Brila reports that Ayomide achieved the feat in India, where she took part in the final of the 200 metres event. The champion also won a bronze medal in a different individual category before snatching two more bronze medals in two team events alongside her mate, Amusar Blessing.
Her performances ensured that Team Nigeria left the competition with a total of four medals. With NRCSF scouting and training more people in canoe sprint, we can only expect the best from Nigeria as the likes of Bello head out to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo next year.
