Ayomide Bello Is Nigeria's First Female Canoeist To Qualify For The Olympics
We are already rooting for her to bring home the gold!
The 2020 Olympics is shaping up to be a really interesting one for Nigeria. In addition to seeing some of our athletes secure places in the upcoming games, we just recorded our first female athlete to qualify: Ayomide Bello who, at 17, is already doing big things in canoeing.
BBC reports that, last week, she beat other African canoeists at the qualifiers in Morocco to win the C1 200 metres event. As she's known to do, she also competed in the C2 women's final with a partner, Goodness Foloki – and, as you might expect, they both won gold.
This isn't the first time the Osun-born canoeist is doing the country proud. Just seven months ago, she won Nigeria's first gold medal at an international water sports event after beating a fleet of opponents at the Open International Canoe Sprint Competition in India.
We are rooting for her to bring home the gold.
