Meet Kadara Enyeasi – The Self-Taught Photographer On Every 'One To Watch' List
Kadara Enyeasi is a gifted self-taught photographer, who uses his work – mostly portraits – to explore issues of sexuality, identity and human psychology.
While Enyeasi, a graduate of Architecture from the University of Lagos, focuses on photography, he is actually a multidisciplinary artist whose creativity spans various fields – from sculpture to digital art – and at only 23 years old, he's already been heavily dubbed "one to watch" in the Nigerian art scene.
Enyeasi initially started off photography with thought-provoking nude self-portraits, and later transcended to using models as his subjects.
Speaking with Lux Afrique about the difference between capturing a model and taking self-portaits, Kadara said:
"Behind the lens I am looking to reveal in all honesty the mood of my subject and idea of the object.
With self-portraits I experiment with self-revelation vs role playing. I am either honest with my figure or telling lies with my pose."
About his work and what inspires him, Kadara continued:
"I only do it because it appeals to me. Frankly I wouldn’t do anything to stand out. I’ll do it because I like it, I can’t do what the crowd likes.
I just do as my mind feels at that moment; whatever you take from it (or) whatever you read from it, that’s your viewer experience."
