MNEK is one of the most talented artists working today, and his debut album has been a long time coming — given that his career has mostly found him behind the scenes, penning and producing pop hits for stars like Beyoncé, Dua Lipa and Madonna.
Recently, the British-Nigerian fully stepped into the spotlight, giving us bops like the Hailee Steinfeld-assisted "Colour", "Tongue" and"Correct". Now, the full body of work, Language is finally here, and it's as wonderful as we expected it to be.
The pop music scene is a very strange place to see a black man in, however, with this album, MNEK proves he belongs, delivering a cohesive collection of perfect pop tracks. While all the songs are brilliantly produced, MNEK's powerful voice is the project's not-so-secret weapon.
Language sees him keeping his unapologetically queer energy, and that's why he's one of 2018's most essential pop stars. It's difficult to pick the standout songs off the album, however, we really enjoy the cheekiness of "Girlfriend"; the depth of "Crazy World"; and joyfulness of "Colour".
