Mayorkun Shines In The Video For DJ Neptune’s Infectious ’Tear Rubber’

It’s been two months since DJ Neptune dropped his star-studded debut LP, Greatness — one of our favourite albums of the year — and, in a bid to keep the project's momentum going, he’s come through with a video for one of its best songs: the Mayorkun-assisted "Tear Rubber".

On "Tear Rubber", like with almost every track on Greatness, DJ Neptune brings out the very best in his guest act. In a year that’s stacked with a lot of forgettable features from the DMW star, this is the rare one that truly utilizes his specific gifts.

Excellently produced by Young Jonn, "Tear Rubber" finds Mayorkun doing what he excels at: singing about a girl he’s hopelessly in love with. "I fit to die on top of your matter/I’ll be your best friend, I’ll be your father/I go dey give gifts, I’ll be your Santa", he promises.

Directed by Adasa Cookey, the accompanying video for "Tear Rubber" is every bit as vibrant as the last clip the award-winning director shot for DJ Neptune (the Kizz Daniel-assisted "Wait"), but unlike that video, this one is mostly performative — filled with stunning, albeit uninspired, imagery.
