Emmanuella's Channel Is The First African Comedy Channel To Hit 1 Million Subscribers On YouTube
Everyone says Nigerians can laugh through anything, and they're not wrong. Despite going through the worst recession in 35 years, Nigerians are Africa’s sixth happiest people.
This is one of the reasons why Mark Angel Comedy has quickly risen to be the most viewed comedy channel in Nigeria - and Africa. Mark Angel's comedy channel with skits starring 8-year-old award-winning comedian, Emmanuella and her real-life uncle, Mark Angel, has now hit one million subscribers on their YouTube channel setting the record for the the most viewed comedy channel in Nigeria and Africa.
It's a huge achievement for the comedy duo, popular channels usually average about 200,000 subscribers: biracial couple, Adanna and David have 200,000 subscribers, Ndani TV which hosts the Frank Donga skits has about 208,000 and popular vlogger, ThatIgboChick has about 100,000 subscribers.
Nigerians' affinity for laughter aside, the brains behind the comedy channel were one of the first comedians to harness the power of social media for the distribution of their material. They have over 120 comedy skits on the channel.
The channel has also gained international recognition, last year, Emmanuella won the award for Top Subscribed Creator from YouTube at the inaugural edition of the Sub-Saharan African YouTube Awards; as well as the Best New Comedienne & Princess of Comedy awards at the Afro -Australia Music & Movie Awards (AAMMA), her uncle, Mark Angel, was honoured with a leadership award.
