Suite aux attentats, la diffusion de plus de 160 chansons et tout le répertoire de RATM a été interdite à la radio.

Les attentats du 11 septembre 2001 font partie des pires tragédies qu’a connues le monde contemporain. Suite à ce jour sinistre, le réseau mondial de radio Clear Channel a établi une liste de plus de 160 chansons qui étaient jugées inappropriées à être diffusées, à cause de leurs paroles dans lesquelles on pouvait voir une référence à ces événements encore récents. De plus, les morceaux présentant d’une quelconque manière une forme d’anti-américanisme dans leurs propos ont également été censurés. Comme le relaie le magazine Kerrang!, les stations de radio ont été vivement poussées à enlever ces titres de leurs playlists.

La fameuse liste, qui a été envoyée à plus de 1 000 stations de radio, rassemble des morceaux aussi variés que “Learn to Fly” de Foo Fighters, “Aeroplane” de Red Hot Chili Peppers, “Seek and Destroy” de Metallica, “Sunday Bloody Sunday” de U2, “Another One Bites the Dust” de Queen, “Rocket Man” d’Elton John ou encore “New York, New York” de Frank Sinatra. En particulier, tout le répertoire de Rage Against the Machine fut prohibé.
