A Second 'Simpsons' Movie Will Be Released In Theaters
Now Disney has bought up 20th Century Fox, it was only a matter of time before 'The Simpsons 2' came into being.
"Spider Pig, Spider Pig, does whatever a Spider Pig does"... and might be back for a second animated movie... That's certainly possible if we're to believe Matt Groening, the creator of The Simpsons himself. "No doubt there will be another Simpsons movie one of these days", he said at San Diego Comic-Con, according to NME. "I think Disney wants something for its money".
The showrunner was referring to the purchase of 20th Century Fox – which owns the rights to The Simpsons – by the House of Mickey. The first movie, released in 2007, was hugely profitable, raking in 527 million dollars around the world. It comes as no surprise that Disney wants to take advantage of that success.
What's not so certain is that Matt Groening and his colleagues are up for a second movie right now. "The first Simpsons movie almost killed us", he explains. "We didn’t have a B-team waiting to do The Simpsons Movie, so the same people who wrote, animated, voiced and did the music for The Simpsons TV show also did the movie. That was in 2007. We’re almost recovered, almost". We reckon a second movie could be a pretty good thing, as long as Homer's loyal piggy friend gets a cameo.
The Simpsons will be back on Fox in the US on September 29... for their 31st season.
