We Now Have A Teaser And Official Release Date For The Final Season Of 'Game of Thrones'
See you on April 14 for the return of the White Walkers.
HBO took the opportunity of the return of the hit 2014 series True Detective to announce the return of another flagship series for the network: the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones. After revealing a vague "April 2019" on a TV ad two months ago, the cable network has finally released the official launch date for the series event of the decade, which will be screened on April 14. But that's not all, because HBO has also released a short teaser to get fans even more excited.
The trailer shows an iconic meeting between the last remaining Starks (Jon Snow, Sansa and Arya). The three heirs to the North meet in the crypt at Winterfell, where we see the tombs of Catelyn and Ned. The scene contains a nod to the pilot episode for the series, in which Robert Baratheon placed a feather in the hand of the statue of Lyanna, the same feather which Jon sends flying as he walks past the same sculpture in the teaser. In Season 5, we also saw the feather in Sansa's hand, when she visited the crypt with Littlefinger.
This small souvenir evokes the parentage of Jon Snow, son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen, who will be at the heart of the action in this final season. The family meeting is abruptly interrupted by the wave of cold spreading through the underground rooms of Winterfell. Unsurprisingly, this marks the advance of the White Walkers, who set upon the Starks' home after destroying the Wall.
Will this final battle be the end for Jon, Arya and Sansa? The image of their funeral statues at the end of the teaser isn't very encouraging...
