'The Simpsons' Predicted The Final Episode Of 'Game of Thrones'
After predicting Lady Gaga's Superbowl performance, Trump's victory and the Nobel Prize for Economics, is it really surprising?
It's been on TV for such a long time – 30 years, to be precise – and is so good at taking the pulse of pop culture, that The Simpsons often manages to predict events taking place in Western society. It even had something to say about the Game of Thrones phenomenon. Warning: spoilers about episode 5 in Season 8!
Matt Groening, the showrunner for the animated series, has proven his prophetic powers once again, as in 2017, the TV series appropriated George R. R. Martin's creation without ever naming it explicitly. And since the screening of episode 5 of the latest season of Game of Thrones, "The Bells", one detail in particular has grabbed fans' attention.
In "The Serfsons", episode 1 of Season 29, Marge and Homer's family is plunged into an authentic medieval fantasy. White walkers, dragons, black magic... everything is a pretext for parody, and the result is pretty enjoyable. But with hindsight, some fans recalled a particular scene in which the Simpsons contemplate the destruction of their village... reduced to ashes by a dragon.
The scene is clearly reminiscent of the recent massacre unleashed upon Kings Landing by Daenerys, making her move over to the dark side once and for all. What The Simpsons didn't tell us is who will be taking their seat on the Iron Throne in the grand finale of Game of Thrones, which will be screened on Sunday night on HBO.
