'Lost' And 'Hunger Games' Come Together In The Rather Suspect Teaser For 'The I-Land'

So that's what Fyre Festival could have looked like...

Remember the Fyre Festival scandal? You know, the festival held on a paradise island which was advertised by loads of influencers on social media... Except that it turned out to be just a big scam. The first teaser for The I-Land, one of the forthcoming productions from Netflix, seems to be broadly inspired by the promo material for the doomed festival. Until the second half of the video, that is, when the idyllic destination becomes rather more nightmarish.

What's the pitch for The I-Land? A dozen people wake up on a desert island, without any idea how they ended up there. Worse still, they don't even remember their own names. As they attempt to find a way off the isolated island, the strangers quickly realize that the nature surrounding them is far more dangerous (and artificial) than it seems. As the teaser shows, they're being watched through the cameras placed all over the island...

The synopsis inevitably brings to mind Hunger Games with its voyeuristic elements and individuals forced to fight against an untameable nature, as well as Lost, for obvious reasons. The masterpiece by J.J. Abrams, Jeffrey Lieber and Damon Lindelof has often been imitated but never surpassed. As for the cast, there are several familiar names, such as Natalie Martinez (Under the Dome), Kate Bosworth (Blue Crush) and Alex Pettyfer (Magic Mike).

The first season of The I-Land will be available on Netflix from September 12.
