An Intense First Trailer For The 'His Dark Materials' Series Has Now Been Released
The first trailer for the long-awaited series co-produced by HBO and the BBC was screened at San Diego Comic-Con.
Philip Pullman's trilogy will soon be released in series format, and HBO has finally released the trailer which fans of the novels had been waiting for at San Diego Comic-Con. Co-produced with the BBC, His Dark Materials was written by Jack Thorne, the screenwriter who also wrote Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
And children are also key players in His Dark Materials, whose heroine, Lyra (Dafne Keen), is an orphaned teenager who finds herself caught up in a conspiracy on an unprecedented scale. The story is set in a parallel world in which each person is connected to a dæmon, a creature which represents the manifestation of their soul, and where life is governed by the Church. Lyra is adopted by Mrs Coulter (Ruth Wilson), but quickly suspects that a plot is under way when her friend Roger and numerous other children are kidnapped.
Her oncle, Lord Asriel (James McAvoy), is a resistor who will stop at nothing to prevent the Church and the Magisterium, its ruling authority, from continuing to cause harm. Lyra heads to the Arctic north to find Roger. On the way, she meets explorer Lee Scoresby (Lin-Manuel Miranda) and a polar bear named Iorek Byrnison. Although no release date has yet been confirmed, the first season of His Dark Materials should be released in the fall on HBO and the BBC.
