Student Tories Want To Build Giant Statue Of Margaret Thatcher Outside Uni Nightclub

A petition launched by the Kent University Conservative Association is hoping to erect a 250 ft statue of Margaret Thatcher to encourage “sensible behaviour.”

It would solemnly stand outside the university nightclub, The Venue, to "encourage good and sensible behaviour under the gaze of the 250 foot Colossus". Whatever your opinion on the controversial former prime minister, a giant statue of her is probably the last thing you'd want to see when stumbling drunk outside of a nightclub during fresher's week.

Appropriately enough, it would be constructed entirely out of iron - a true testament of her nickname, the “Iron Lady”.

"Strategically placed this would allow the sun to reflect off the handbag at certain times during the day. The statue would then serve the purpose of being a literal 'shining testament to liberty'. While the ingenious polished Bronze handbag would also allow the statue to dazzle the eyes of those lefties."

The petition calls for the statue to stand on a 50 ft marble pedestal, and to be built at a 46:1 scale. In layman's terms, this would make it almost twice the height of the Statue of Liberty in New York and almost 1/3rd the height of The Shard. It would also weigh hundred of tons and cost millions of pounds to create and install.

Emilio Kyprianou, Chairman of Kent University Conservative Association (KUCA) and the man behind the petition told The Tab: “This was started as an attempt to highlight problems with the current petition system. Having said that, we are going to run with it, this could be a real positive for Kent.”

Specifications also suggested that the statues shine so bright as to cross the English Channel and impede the vision of French sailor attempting to cross.

Believe it or not, this isn’t the first time Kent students has been called to vote on a project for such a statue. In 2013 the association called for the construction of a smaller 200 ft statue, made entirely out of bronze. It was called “a complete waste of time” and was never built.

If the current project doesn't get the green light, something tells us the KUCA won't give up on their dream of honouring Thatcher's memory. And scaring all the "lefties."
