Netflix Reveals Its Most Binge-Watched Series… And There Are A Few Surprises
The results are surprising, but should nonetheless be taken with a pinch of salt.
It's almost impossible to get hold of Netflix's audience figures. Because it isn't a traditional TV network, the results for the platform's programs aren't calculated by Nielsen. To find out how popular series are, there are two solutions: read the estimates issued by independent measuring organizations, or wait for Netflix to release its own statistics...
And when the SVOD giant decides to let us in on its stats, they're carefully chosen tidbits, like this little list of the most binge-watched series on the platform in the United States:
- On My Block
- Making a Murderer Season 2
- 13 Reasons Why Season 2
- Last Chance U: INDY (documentary series)
- Fastest Car (reality show)
- The Haunting of Hill House
- Anne with an E Season 2
- Orange Is the New Black Season 6
The results are surprising, but must be taken in context. This list covers the series watched most quickly from beginning to end by subscribers. That means it's not necessarily a good indicator of the most popular shows on the platform. In November, the independent organization 7Park Data estimated that The Office was the most-watched series last month, followed by Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and Friends in third place.
In the table below, the series marked in red are content belonging to the platform, the "Netflix Originals" which represent 37 % of the catalog, and in grey, the shows obtained under another licence (for example The Office, which belongs to NBC), representing 63 % of its programs.
