iMessage Interview: 'Post-Pop' Artist Fucci Talks Sexuality, Fashion, Instagram Likes
Finnish-Canadian artist Fucci has been cranking out some really funky, provocative art pieces for a good while now, and (luckily for us) he seems just to be hitting his creative stride.
Fucci's aesthetic is unapologetically sexy. He seems to be obsessed with the feminine form, drawing slightly cartoonish, faceless nude figures that are reminiscent of Henri Matisse's later period, but all while making use of much more eye-popping, explosively radiant colour palettes.
His paintings can come across with a slightly voyeuristic vibe, but in a way that's not at all porny or creepy. Check out for yourself.
As a veteran of the fashion design world, it makes perfect sense that Fucci has been collaborating with clothing brands, even launching his own label called Sick of Planet Earth (#SOPEboys).
You can see more of Fucci's enticing oeuvre on his Instagram account but for now, get acquainted with the artist in our SMS interview where we touch on topics such as anonymity, the "Instagram artist" phenomenon, the usefulness of art-historical genre descriptors, spirit animals and drawing nude U.S. Presidents.
