'Zombieland 2' Is Set To Be Released In 2019, With The Complete Original Cast
The tenth anniversary of the entertaining zombiesque comedy by Ruben Fleischer, Zombieland, which was released in November 2009, is approaching — OK, it’s still more than a year away, but who cares.
We’re also heading towards the tenth anniversary of the production of Zombieland 2. As you can see, the creators were eager to start work on a second instalment as soon as the first was released, but ten years later, there’s still nothing to show for it – yet!
For a while now, they’ve been teasing us here and there with news that the original cast are keen to return or that the screenplay is complete, but we’ve yet to hear a big official announcement. However, the project has taken a new turn today. Interviewed by Vulture for the release of Deadpool 2, which they also worked on, the screenwriters for the first Zombieland film, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, explained:
"We’re approaching the tenth anniversary of Zombieland. It was released in October 2009. We still don’t know what you’ll be getting for that anniversary, but it might be Zombieland 2. We hope to film it in early 2019, so that it can be released in October of the same year. With the original cast, by the way."
Nothing’s certain yet, but it’s looking good for now. Thanks to the massive success of Deadpool – and to the expected success of its sequel, which has just been released in cinemas – the duo’s reputation has improved throughout Hollywood. Between that and the clear (albeit somewhat unexpected) success of the first Zombieland at the box office, there’s no reason why the two screenwriters’ wishes shouldn’t come true.
We’ll know for sure in the coming weeks.
