Halloween has come early this year. While Netflix is planning to scare us silly with Ghoul, its first Indian horror series, Hulu brings us the enigmatic Castle Rock at the end of July. The result of an encounter between J.J. Abrams and Stephen King, this fantasy series is set in the Maine town imagined by the US novelist in Dead Zone. It combines the universes created by the master of horror (the Shawshank prison, Pennywise the clown, Danny Torrance from The Shining, and more) to create a very dark original story.

The trailer demonstrates the full force of this production co-signed by the creator of Alias and Lost: a meticulously created, chilling aesthetic somewhere between Outcast and Dark, a five star cast (Bill Skarsgård, Terry O’Quinn, Sissy Spacek, Scott Glenn, André Holland), an intriguing crime mystery to be solved and, above all, strange creatures which prowl Castle Rock's gloomy corners. While the plot remains a mystery, the series appears to be based on the escape of a prisoner from Shawshank, which coincides with the return of a former guard at the prison.

Castle Rock will contain elements from the various novels and novellas by Stephen King which feature the small town: Dead Zone, It, Cujo, The Dark Half, Needful Things, The Body, etc. The first shivers of the summer are set to arrive on July 25.
