We Now Know Who Will Play Elvis Presley
Discreet actor and musician Austin Butler got the part.
Baz Luhrmann found his Elvis Presley. For the biopic he is preparing on the singer, the director of Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet and The Great Gatsby auditioned Harry Styles, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Austin Butler for the role. Finally, he chose the latter, which we will soon see in the new Tarantino, Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood alongside the greatest: Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Margot Robbie.
Actor, singer, musician and model, the future King also made an appearance in Jim Jarmusch'sThe Dead Don’t Die, the film that opened the Cannes Film Festival this year. Discreet, despite two films presented at the 72nd Festival, Austin Butler made a name for himself mainly with the series The Carrie Diaries.
The production was looking for two Elvis, one who could play the 18-22 version and another 35 years old. The two actors will, of course, sing the King's classics themselves. After four years of negotiations, this is therefore great news for the project expected for in 2021.
This new Warner project will retrace the star's rise by focusing on his complex relationship with his manager, "Colonel" Tom Parker who will be played by Tom Hanks. Together, they will collect many gold and platinum records.
