A Fifth 'Matrix' Movie Is In The Pipeline
Although the fourth movie in the franchise hasn't yet been filmed and the casting process is still ongoing, the universe of The Matrix will be extended with a fifth film, as announced by screenwriter Zak Penn, best known for his work on Avengers and Ready Player One, among other movies.
people keep asking, so let me clarify there are two different #Matrix projects at wb. i wrote one set earlier in the timeline of the matrix universe. Lana Wachowski is directing a sequel that i did not work on, but cant wait to see. Neither of them are reboots. #notareboot— Zak Penn (@zakpenn) October 5, 2019
According to the latest news, if the original cast – Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, who'd return to their roles as Neo and Trinity – agree to return, the plot could take us on a journey through time, as Warner has been looking for actors to play younger versions of the two characters.
Lana Wachowski will be writing and directing the follow-up movie, but for now, no explanation has been given as to why Lilly isn't involved in the project. As for the screenplay, it'll feature contributions from American writer Aleksandar Hemon and British novelist David Mitchell.
Fans will be pretty happy to hear the franchise seems set to keep going for a while longer yet.
