This Bar Fits Only Three People, Including The Bartender

New York is well known for its insane real estate prices and claustrophobic apartments that make even the biggest conformists shake their heads in dismay. However, this establishment will surprise even those who've seen it all.

Opened to the public a little less than a month ago, Threesome Tollbooth is a speakeasy type bar that only fits three people. Yes, you read that right, the super intimate space accommodates the bartender plus you and your companion, no one else.

The bar is located in Bushwick, inside a "supply closet of a shuttered Italian restaurant," according to the New York Times. But the exact whereabouts of it are held in deep secrecy, so much so that visitors aren't even allowed to take photos of the place.

In its essence, the Tollbooth is a private micro bar offering cocktails created by experienced mixologists. But in a more flashy, marketing lingo it could be credited as a place of mystery, a place to escape from the city rumble, enjoy your company and let the night take you where it wants to go. Truly, though, many places can do that if you let them...

Tollbooth was founded by artist N.D. Austin together with lexicographer and friend Jesse Sheidlower. As the Gothamist points out, the idea came from a stunt Austin pulled to "win back his estranged wife," which included exactly what Tollbooth is today – an intimate pop-up bar for just the two of them.

"You own the space. It changes every time according to who comes and what they bring. After all, you’re the only one there."

In the past, Austin has worked on similar projects under the alias Sextantworks, particularly The Night Heron speakeasy, which was located inside an old water tower. Speaking to Bushwick Daily, the artist explained: "I take neglected spaces and bring them to life."

If you're curious to find out what happens at this mysterious bar for yourself, here's what you need to know. The visit is by reservation only – to get a spot visit this page and choose your dates.
