The crime rate in South Africa is at an all-time high, and, like in most parts of the world, the victims are mostly women. According to Africa Check, a woman was murdered every four hours in South Africa between April and December 2016.
Seven months ago, an emergency response service called Namola was released, and it's already proving to be a hit with South Africans. With over 100,000 users, the Namola app works as a panic button on your phone that links a 24/7 response call centre with your GPS coordinates to send help your way fast.
Namola says all its call centre staff are trained to handle any type of incident, from break-ins to fires to urgent medical issues, but it’s also a great tool for motorists on the go. If you’ve had an accident or witnessed one, where the response of police and/or medics is required, getting help is as simple as opening the app and pressing the "Request Assistance" button.
After that, the call centre will make contact with you, ask the type of assistance needed and dispatch the correct service — whether it’s the police, fire department or ambulances. There’s also a built-in SMS function in case it’s not possible to speak aloud during the emergency.
Namola has proved to be a very useful tool for South African women, especially now, when they're, for all intents and purposes, endangered. According to social media reviews, women in crises have been able to use Namola successfully.

If you haven’t downloaded it as yet, I don’t know what you’re waiting for...
Namola claims to not only cut down response time but also offer a dedicated agent who will remain in contact with you throughout the emergency. The app definitely greatly improves the chances of a victim getting help.
