A New Hampshire-based brewery has just concocted a beer which they claim can help ease menopause symptoms for women. Portsmouth Brewery worked on the brew for six grueling years, but now announces they've created a menopause symptom-relieving beer that is market-ready.
As the brewery notes on its website, Libeeration is the first craft beer of its kind. Portsmouth Brewery Co-owner and Creative Director Joanne Francis explains:
“It’s taken years to bring this idea to market,” brewery co-owner Joanne Francis said. “After consulting with women health practitioners and herbalists, our team came up with ingredients believed to relieve symptoms like sleeplessness, hot flashes, and mood swings.
And, we want to shift the mentality from focusing on the negative aspects of this stage in life, to celebrating the liberating aspects!”
Those in-the-know with herbal remedies will be familiar with some of the herbs and plants used, including: Motherwort, Lemon Balm, Chamomile, Stinging Nettle, Mugwort, Rose, Chickweed, and Damiana. Head Brewer Matt Gallagher told Fosters:
“We worked with the herbalist first coming up with a long list of herbs that all had beneficial qualities alleviating symptoms associated with menopause. nd we had a women’s health practitioner who was like ‘Oh, maybe I’d steer away from those two, combining them with alcohol and things like that.’
What Joanne and I did was we we ordered little 1-oz. samples of all of the herbs that we had been steered toward and then we had a tea drinking afternoon. We hydrated them all in hot water and took down some tasting notes."
The outcome is said to be a earthy, herby, old-fashion gruit that is leaving people feeling quite dandy after intake. While we're excited for this beer to hit the broader market, we're even more excited to see beer being marketed towards a demographic who admire throwing craft beer back just as much as the boys.
