You can't go on in this world if you're even remotely lazy, as productivity is our cultish global goal. Along with obsessions with living fast and not wasting ANY time, the pressure is piled on now more than ever in terms of making yourself as useful as is humanly possible.
It transpires that an extra shot, double whipped, dry, mocha macchiato isn't the answer to at-work fatigue anymore – it's LSD. Or "microdoses" of it.
According to a recent article in this December's Rolling Stone, business folk in Silicon Valley are avoiding that afternoon slump by taking small amounts of acid – around a tenth of the normal dose – which acts as a nifty energy boost.
This dosage is enough to feel the energizing effects, but not so much as a proper acid trip. Rick Doblin, founder of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies says microdosing is just right "to feel a little bit of energy lift, a little bit of insight, but not so much that you are tripping."
James Fadiman, author of The Psychedelic Explorer's Guide also told Rolling Stone it's "an extremely healthy alternative to Adderall", but so far this culture of microdosing is mainly on the rise in San Francisco amongst the "übersmart twentysomething" person, he says.
As well as possibly increasing creativity, microdoses of LSD can also alleviate symptoms of depression, migraines and chronic-fatigue syndrome, according to Fadiman and the rise in the drug being used by therapists for a whole string of mental illnesses.
While ditching the caffeine and "smart drugs" sounds like a plausible case, we can't say we'll be ditching our coffee time for LSD breaks anytime soon.
