'The Simpsons' Predicted Disney's Acquisition Of Fox 20 Years Ago

On December 14, it was revealed that the mega-giant that is the Walt Disney Company had bought Rupert Murdoch's 21st Century Fox in a colossal $52.4 billion deal.

While the information in itself probably doesn't excite you that much, there is one little fact that might revive your interest in the matter. Namely, that The Simpsons already predicted the move way back in 1998.

If there's one thing we know about The Simpsons, it's that beyond its quirky tales of family life and topical gags, the show has an incredible ability to predict the future. More specifically, it seems to have a spooky talent of anticipating various major US events, which it has proven multiple times over its thirty years on the air.

The show's most recent prediction-turned-reality comes from episode five of season ten, entitled "When You Dish Upon a Star". The episode in question sees Homer accidentally strike up a friendship with Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger, ultimately sending Ron Howard off with a script to pitch to 20th Century Fox.

When cartoon Howard arrives at the studio, we see an enormous Fox sign in the entrance accompanied by the words "a division of Walt Disney Co". You can check out a screenshot of the moment just below.

Over the years, The Simpsons has predicted the winner of the 2016 Nobel Prize in Economic Science, Lady Gaga's performance at the Super Bowl, Floyd Mayweather's victory against Conor McGregor and even Trump's presidency. Keep on watching if you want to find out anything about the next few years...
