'The Bold Type' Is Renewed For A 2nd And 3rd Season

We were starting to worry: The Bold Type, the surprise summer hit lauded by critics for its clever writing and strong female characters, had still not been awarded a second season. This was apparently due to the less than harmonious relationship between Freeform and the series' creator, Sarah Watson.

These "creative differences" led to the showrunner leaving and being replaced by Amanda Lasher, who'll be in charge of the twenty next episodes Freeform recently ordered.

No need to worry about this dramatic change, however, especially if we have a closer look at Lasher's Curriculum Vitae: she's previously worked on hit series such as Riverdale, Sweet/Vicious, Togetherness and Gossip Girl (a good mix of girly, feminist and realist series).

Karey Burke, program manager for Freeform, commented:

“At Freeform, we are committed to delivering shows that celebrate the power and possibility of the female voice. Season one of The Bold Type brought culturally significant stories to the masses that not only entertain but also empower our viewers to conquer the world – we are excited to continue to champion these incredible women.”

The Bold Type is about three young women working in different departments at Scarlet (imagine Cosmopolitan turned feminist). The first season dealt with themes such as the sexuality of young women, intersectionality, rape, succeeding in the workplace and the Free the Nipple movement.

It was a breath of fresh air, compared to the relatively lighter comedies like Pretty Little Liars. It also showed it was possible to create a series that was at the same time feminist, optimistic and widely successful.

Kat, Sutton and Jane (Aisha Dee, Meghann Fahy and Katie Stevens respectively), took bold personal and professional decisions at the end of season one, and we're eager to see where they will get them.

Two more seasons with my best boo boos? That's gonna be a heck yes from me dawg #TheBoldType
