After American Gods, another legendary novel by Neil Gaiman is about to be released in series format. This time, it's Good Omens. Taking advantage of the New York Comic-Con, Amazon Prime Video revealed the very first trailer for this promising new series, which couldn't get much more pop if it tried, featuring the unexpected yet very appealing duo of Michael Sheen and David Tennant.
The two actors play angel Aziraphale and demon Crowley respectively. After living on Earth for thousands of years, they've developed a sort of impossible friendship over time. When the Apocalypse starts to show its teeth, our two buddies aren't too keen on standing idly by as the Earth is destroyed and the Antichrist takes over. They form an unlikely alliance to stop this from happening.
Unlike American Gods, which has seen several changes of showrunner since the first season, Good Omens is directly overseen by the co-author of the books, Neil Gaiman (he wrote the novel alongside the late Terry Pratchett). The initial images reveal a quirky universe, in which Sheen and Tennant have all sorts of fun, backed up by irresistible wigs and quirky facial expressions. And on top of that, there's a Queen soundtrack ("You’re My Best Friend"). Yep, the trailer really is perfect.
We can't wait to see them in action, trying to save
the planet restaurants and vintage bookshops (Aziraphale's one weakness). The cherry on the Apocalypse is a certain Jon Hamm – yes, Don Draper in Mad Men – who'll make an appearance as an odd kind of Gabriel, a role created specially for him by Gaiman. We'll have to wait a bit longer still to find out the exact release date for this limited series, which will have only six episodes. All we know for now is that it'll be here sometime around the beginning of 2019.
