'Stranger Things' Season 3 Is Already In The Works

WARNING: if you haven't seen the entirety of Stranger Things season two, this one's not for you.

If you're currently regretting having binge-watched the second season of Stranger Things in one big gulp, do not fret: the Duffer brothers are just now in the process of penning a third installment.

Renewed for two extra chapters before season two even aired, the retro sci-fi show wound up on an unexpectedly positive note at the end of the last chapter, leaving a clean slate for the next batch of episodes.

Speaking to ScreenRant about the decision not to end on a cliffhanger, the screenwriting brothers said:

"Yeah, we don’t end it on a totally happy note, do we? [Laughs] There were discussions about that, but then we went, 'Nah, we have to hint at what’s to come.' The hope we wanted people to get out of it is that this thing [is still out there].

They’ve shut the door on the Mind Flayer, but not only is it still there in the Upside Down, it’s very much aware of the kids, and particularly Eleven. It had not encountered her and her powers until that final episode. Now, it knows that she’s out there. We wanted to end on a little bit of an ominous note on that level."

Ending on a warning rather than a mystery, it looks like the show creators could be saying that the mega-monster's next step could be to control Eleven, having failed with Will's mind. For the moment, no release date has been given but we're expecting season three to drop before the end of 2018. Patience, friends.

The two first seasons of Stranger Things are available right now on Netflix
