Original 'Star Wars' Composer John Williams To Return For Han Solo Spin-Off

Say what you will of the latest Star Wars movies but there's no denying the quality of the music provided by the great John Williams. Proving once again that his work is part of the saga's DNA, the veteran composer provided one of his most beautiful creations to date on The Force Awakens ("The Scavenger") and went on to nail it again in The Last Jedi

We had, however, noticed his absence from the soundtrack of the latest spin-off, Rogue One, leading us to question whether he'd be taking part in the upcoming Han Solo-centred movie. But thankfully, we have now been assured that Williams is set to provide more of his epic sounds for the franchise's new addition.

During a recent chat with Variety, the movie maestro confirmed that he will be composing the main theme for Solo: A Star Wars Story. He explained:

"The present plan is that I’m writing a theme for Han Solo, and John Powell is going to write the score, which he’ll do brilliantly."

You may be familiar with John Powell's work on How to Train Your Dragon, the Bourne action franchise, as well as a number of animated films, including Happy Feet

The legendary John Williams has gathered no fewer than 50 Oscar nominations over the years plus a total of five wins. This will be his ninth Star Wars contribution, so we're definitely in safe hands – for the main theme, at least!
