In 2010, The Simpsons Predicted The Winner Of 2016 Nobel Prize In Economic Science

Last Monday, hardcore fans of Homer and Co. were surprised to learn that Bengt Holmström got awarded the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences.

In the first episode of season 22, entitled "Elementary School Musical," Milhouse bets with Lisa that the Finnish economist would win said prize. Six years later, it turns out that he was actually bang on the money in his prediction.

It is not the first time that The Simpsons have anticipated the future. In 1994, the cook at Bart and Lisa’s school used a mystery ingredient which was in fact horse meat. Now link this to the 2013 scandal, when horse meat accidentally found its way into our food.

Among the various anecdotal things that the show predicted, we can find the beginnings of Skype, Farmville and why not also Miley Cyrus’ famous "Wrecking Ball," as theorized in this Buzzfeed article.

The 28th season of The Simpsons started in the US on September 25.
