Despite getting the green light from Netflix, we thought that the renewal of A Series of Unfortunate Events had to be down to some kind of mistake. After all, didn't Klaus, Violet and Sunny suffer enough in the first season?
Well, sadly, Entertainment Weekly has sealed the young inheritors' fate with a series of ghastly images from the show's upcoming second chapter. If you want to turn away immediately, we won't blame you.
This time around, the show will cover Lemony Snicket's books number five up to nine, meaning it'll pick up exactly where we left off the first time around.
In a rare stroke of misfortune (jokes), the trio is set to cross paths with terrible new classmate Carmelita Spats, played by Kitana Turnbull (Supergirl), who can be seen donning a pink frilly dress in the new images.
After a brief stint at the awful boarding school, the kids are then packed off to live with new guardian Esmé Squalor, played by Lucy Punch (Bad Teacher), in an art deco penthouse. Which perhaps explains why Olaf is dressed like Karl Lagerfeld as part of one of his new disguises.
"Tonally, we have more action, and things are little darker and sadder," executive producer Barry Sonnenfeld explained of the fresh batch of episodes which, frankly, is no mean feat at this stage.
On the upside, as with season one, Neil Patrick Harris has promised to take on a different voice for each role he plays on the show. A Series of Unfortunate Events season two is expected at some point on Netflix in 2018. Prepare for a rough ride.
