Claire Danes set the alarm bells ringing several months ago, but the news has now been confirmed. As Deadline reports, Season 8 of Homeland will also be the final installment of the series. The end of the spy saga was officially announced by David Nevins, president of the cable network Showtime, which has broadcast the series since its launch in 2011.
"It's not a cancellation", he clarified during a panel. Indeed, the series is set to have a proper ending, decided by its showrunner Alex Gansa. Just to remind you, Season 7 of Homeland ended last spring with more than satisfying viewer numbers, which had risen since the previous season.
After being screened for the last eight years, Homeland has become a flagship program for Showtime. Over the years, the series has won its fair share of awards, including two Emmy Awards for Best Actress for Claire Danes. We're crossing our fingers that she'll go out on a high note, with the return of the series scheduled for June 2019 in the US.
