It's official – Rick and Morty is overtaking McDonald's! In anticipation of its Buttermilk Crispy Tenders launch, the fast food company is organizing a special event on October 7 that will resurrect the almost-20-year-old pop culture icon – McDonald's Szechuan sauce.
"On Oct 7, [...] we’re also giving away a one-time only, limited-edition, run of Szechuan Sauce in select restaurants. And when we say limited, we mean really, really limited!"
The sweet and sour, and savory, and tangy, and spicy, and tart sauce rose back into prominence after being hilariously referenced in the animated series, Rick and Morty. In the first episode of Season 3, we see Rick demanding to taste the sauce that was originally created to promote the release of Mulan back in 1998.
Since the episode aired, fans have not ceased demanding the comeback of Szechuan sauce. The need is so intense that one packet has sold for a whopping $15,000 on eBay! So it's amazing to hear McDonald's is bringing it back, even if just for one day.
