A few months ago, Grammy-winning group The Black Eyed Peas, in collaboration with Marvel Comics, released an original graphic novel called Masters of the Sun – The Zombie Chronicles.
The novel skillfully mixes together the unlikeliest of genres to tell the story of a hip-hop group from East LA who must battle an ancient, alien god which turns drug dealers and gangsters into flesh-eating zombies.
Bringing the characters to life in a whole new way
Taking the comic experience up a notch, the group have produced an augmented reality version of the graphic novel which literally brings it to life – and it's honestly the coolest thing we've seen all month.
Readers can use a companion mobile app to experience the comic's animated characters bursting out of the panels, voiced by some of our hip-hop and r&b favorites, including Snoop Dogg, Common, Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige and more. Speaking with Billboard about the comic, Marvel editor, Axel Alonso, said:
"Few artistes have done more to embed hip-hop in popular culture than will.i.am and the Black Eyed Peas.
So we are thrilled to present this deeply personal story that speaks directly to hip-hop aficionados, comic book fans and the intersection of those communities."
