It's been three years since Lupita Nyongo'o won an Oscar for her moving performance in 12 Years a Slave and it seems as if Hollywood is finally figuring out what to do with her.
With the Charlies Angels reboot (fingers crossed), the Rihanna heist movie and her role in Marvel's Black Panther, it looks like we'll be seeing a lot more of the actress in the coming years. And you can now add the zombie rom-com Little Monsters to the list of movies shes is set to appear in.
Lupita has been cast alongside Josh Gad (Frozen) and Alexander England (Alien: Covenant). The film, which is directed by Abe Forsythe, will follow Dave (England), a washed-up musician who volunteers to chaperone his nephew’s kindergarten class trip after falling for his teacher Miss Caroline (Nyong’o).
Dave’s intentions are complicated by the presence of Teddy (Gad) the world’s most famous kids show personality – and competition for Miss Caroline’s affections. One thing none of them bargained for, however, is a sudden zombie outbreak, from which Dave and Miss Caroline must protect the children.
About casting Lupita and Gad, one of the movie's producers, Bruna Papandrea, said:
"We have been longtime fans of Lupita’s and Josh’s extraordinary work, and we are thrilled that they have come on board."
What makes this casting so exciting is that we get to see a dark-skinned black woman not only play the love interest (a rarity in Hollywood) but ultimately save the day (even rarer). So, consider us officially hyped for the movie's release.
