It seems that since women in the entertainment industry called out Harvey Weinstein for sexual harassment, every week we've seen a new predator unmasked and more and more victims come forward. Now Kevin Spacey (House of Cards, American Beauty) has been accused by Anthony Rapp of sexual harassment.
Rapp, who is a veteran of Broadway and currently stars in Star Wars Discovery, accused the Oscar-winner of coming on to him at a party when they both appeared in Long Day’s Journey Into Night together in 1986. Spacey would have been 26 years old whereas Rapp was only 14.
Speaking to Buzzfeed News about his experience, Rapp explained that Spacey picked Rapp up and put him on the bed, climbing on top of him. Rapp said that this was an attempt for Spacey to "seduce" him. "I was aware that he was trying to get with me sexually," he adds.
"My stomach churns. I still to this day can’t wrap my head around so many aspects of it. It’s just deeply confusing to me."
Amid the allegations, Spacey tweeted a statement saying he had no recollection of the incident. He also used the moment to confirm rumors about his sexuality. This, in turn, caused many to take to social media to criticise him for deflecting the allegations, instead making the conversation about his sexuality.
