Facebook is continuing its move into scripted programming. The company has been ordering TV shows and miniseries to pilot for Watch, its platform for original content. The company just ordered a Southside Chicago-based drama series to be produced by Scandal's Kerry Washington.
The show, titled Five Points, is set in the South Side of Chicago and takes a look at high school students from five unique points of view. When a life-changing event occurs, all of these different perspectives will be necessary to understand the truth.
So far, Madison Pettis (Seven Pounds, The Game Plan) and Hayley Kiyoko (Lemonade Mouth, Insidious) have been tapped to star as two of the five teens. The other three teens have not been cast yet.
Shows that Facebook has rolled out on Watch include Ball in the Family, a reality series that follows the family of NBA star Lonzo Ball; Loosely Exactly Nicole, a comedy series starring Nicole Byer; and Humans of New York: The Series, based on the popular Facebook page and social art project.
The series was created by Adam Giaudrone (Being Mary Jane) and he will serve as writer and executive producer. This is another behind-the-scenes move for Ms. Washington. She has an overall deal at ABC and she's already working on the comedy Melting Pot and a drama series on four LAPD women cops. She's also executive producing Universal's City of Saints and Thieves with Will Packer, directed by Atlanta's Melina Matsoukas.
Keep slaying Kerry, keep slaying...
