The casting for Damien Chazelle's upcoming movie First Man is slowly coming together. We recently learned Ryan Gosling would play the starring role as Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon in 1969.
Kyle Chandler will be playing the Chief of the Astronaut Office, Deke Slayton, and Corey Stoll has been cast as the second man who walked on the moon, Buzz Aldrin.
And now The Hollywood Reporter informs us that the Oscar-winning director of Whiplash and La La Land has added Jon Bernthal to the cast.
The actor, who we first saw in The Walking Dead, later went on to make a name for himself in several excellent films such as The Wolf of Wall Street, Sicario, Baby Driver and The Ghost Writer. Bernthal will be playing David Scott, an astronaut considered to be the seventh of twelve men to walk on the moon.
First Man will tell the story of Neil Armstrong starting from 1961. Damien Chazelle, who worked with renowned writer Josh Singer (who won an Oscar for Spotlight) to create the script, plans to focus in on the difficulties and sacrifices of the mission.
