A 'Game Of Thrones' Ice Hotel Has Opened In Lapland

While it may not be possible to roam the fictional land of Westeros, HBO Nordic has offered up something almost as good. Giving us the chance to truly experience the Stark motto "winter is coming", the company has teamed up with Lapland Hotels SnowVillage to bring us a Game of Thrones-themed hotel sculpted entirely out of ice and snow.

Sprawling over 20,000 meters squared, the hotel is found in Lapland, Finland's northernmost region tucked deep inside the Arctic Circle. Each room is filled with various sculptures inspired by popular characters and themes from the show including dragons, White Walkers and even an Iron Throne.

The hotel is also equipped with a bar, a restaurant and a chapel for the ultimate GoT-themed wedding. All of that has been grooved out of 44 million pounds of snow and 771,000 pounds of ice by workers who carried out the impressive feat in conditions well below 0 °C (32 °F).

If you want to sign up, you'd better act fast, because there are only 14 bedrooms and ten suites available in total. It's possible to reserve directly through the hotel site with prices starting at £148 (around $200) per night up to April 8 2018 – beyond that date the hotel will actually start to melt.

If that's too much of a stretch, you can also just drop by for the day for a more manageable £15 ($20). It's worth pointing out that the temperature in the hotel is maintained at around -5 °C (23 °F) for obvious reasons, so it's not for the thin-skinned among you. To that effect, the hotel also advises to stay for no longer than one night in the ice rooms.

If that sounds like something you're interested in, the hotel can be reached via a short flight from Helsinki. If you're still on the fence, these photos, as well as the hotel's Instagram page, should go some way to convincing you.
