'Friends' Fan Theory Says Monica And Joey Were Permanently High

Thanks to Reddit and its inexhaustible stream of theories, it's almost as if Friends never left our screens. This time we have Redditor and sitcom enthusiast lolalodge to thank (or not) for a new hypothesis concerning two of the group's members.

According to the theory, Joey was a total pothead while Monica balanced a cocaine addiction over ten seasons of the hit show. It sounds pretty out there – and it kind of is – but there are a couple of points that aren't so far-fetched.

Lolalodge's first observation, concerning Monica, is actually quite fair. As they write:

"Most people that work in the restaurant industry tend to gravitate towards some sort of substance since the job is very high stress."

They go on to describe how Our Little Harmonica seems to live a fairly modest lifestyle despite having a series of decent-paying jobs in high-end restaurants.

She lives illegally in her grandmother's rent-controlled apartment where she always shares the bills with at least one other tenant. Furthermore, she doesn't seem to spend her money in bars, hobbies or clothes. So where exactly is all her money going?

Well, as lolalodge suggests, it could be going straight up her nose. The Redditor has even found the spot where Monica hides her stash. Yup, you guessed it: hidden among the chaos in that cupboard by the window that Chandler isn't allowed to look in. What's more, her cocaine addiction could explain how she managed to lose so much weight as a teen and also why she's so highly strung.

Moving on to Joey, this aspect of the theory is pretty self-explanatory. Throughout the entire show, the Friend has all the stereotypical 'stoner' characteristics. He's super chill, has a major passion for naps and an insatiable appetite for pizza and sandwiches.

According to lolalodge, he's also "kind of spaced out and a lot of what other people say goes 'whoosh' right over his head."

So it may not the most convincing Reddit theory out there but there you have. And if that sparked your interest in depressing Friends theories, you can check out this one about Ross losing custody of Ben. Dark stuff.
