Ever since playing the gifted teen from the slums of Mumbai in 2008 Slumdog Millionaire, Dev Patel has come a long way. The actor has landed Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for the supporting role in Lion, and already has his eye set on the next project.
However, this time around, the British actor of Indian descent is stepping out of the good guy role we are so used to seeing him in, and delves into the dark world of male strippers and murder.
Described by Deadline as "Magic Mike meets Scarface," Chippendales will be based on the real life story of the male stripper empire of the same name.
According to the news site, Dev is joining the film as Chippendales' founder, Somen "Steve" Banerjee, who went from a gas station owner to successful businessman in the 80s adult entertainment industry, to convicted murderer for orchestrating the death of choreographer and recruiter Nick DeNoia. Ben Stiller is lined up to star in the film as DeNoia.
The sketchy details of the Chippendales' story are endless. Banerjee also confessed to having burned rival clubs down and hiring a hit man to kill another choreographer, while Paul Snider, the club's co-creator, murdered his wife (Playboy bunny Dorothy Stratten) before committing his own suicide.
The movie has been 20 years in the making, with directors like Oliver Stone attached to the project at one point. We can't wait to see Dev and the rest of the cast in this film!
