After spreading all over the US and adding more and more American series to its already impressive catalog, Netflix is thinking about diversification and about extending its hold in Europe.
After a so-so Marseilles, filmed in France, Netflix is releasing a new slick thriller entitled Dark, its first German production.
Dark looks like a cross between Stranger Things and Scandi-thriller series like The Killing. Set in the small town of Winden, where two children inexplicably disappear. What should have been a straightforward case of missing persons, quickly becomes something much bigger, involving long-buried secrets.
We could have assumed that Dark would just be another of these series obsessed with kids missing, but it's not quite that. The series seems to be messing about with time travel in a novel way, and that's what makes it so promising. Dark is directed by Baran bo Odar (who also did Sleepless, starring Jamie Foxx and T.I).
All 10 episodes of Dark will be available from December 1 on Netflix.
