While we thought we may just have managed to escape the inevitable, Netflix has made a special announcement to ruin our New Year's jubilation.Yup, that's right: A Series of Unfortunate Events will soon be making its season two debut as the platform's first original release of the year.
Still on the hunt for the Baudelaire kids' fortunes, Count Olaf is seen sharpening his knives in preparation for the next instalment in this brand new trailer.
Picking up where season one left off, the next chapter will see Violet, Klaus and Sunny experience a brief stint at boarding school where they cross paths with terrible new classmate Carmelita Spats, (played by Kitana Turnbull, Supergirl).
Next up, the wretched trio is packed off to live with new guardian Esmé Squalor (Lucy Punch, Bad Teacher), before a stop at Café Salmonella, followed by a stay at Heimlich Hospital. And no, the season will not be given a happy ending but is rather destined for a much more terrible fate: a third season.
Count Olaf will continue to follow the inheritors to all four corners of the globe starting March 30 2018. You can catch the first season of A Series of Unfortunate Events on Netflix right now (if you're brave enough...).
