Lagos is experiencing a retail revolution, as in the past few years, there has been a rising number of brands setting up shop in concept stores like Alara, Temple Muse, Polo Avenue and more.
It's no secret that these stores mostly cater to high-end, luxury fashion, and urban streetwear retail doesn't have it's own niche over here quite yet. Well, the beginning of the solution is here, as XII Glover is opening up to fill this gap in the industry.
Streetwear brands such as Vetements, Off-White and Supreme have built a strong fan base in recent years. Their huge influence on young consumers has attracted the attention of luxury brands, which has initiated collaborations and taken streetwear from the sidewalk to the runway.
In Nigeria, the streetwear scene is budding yet buzzing. We can see this with local brands, such as WAFFLESNCREAM, 24 Apparel, Bearded Genius and Vivendii, who all broke into this niche years ago, and have now established themselves as the OG streetwear brands in Lagos.
These brands set us up as creators of culture, rather than consumers, and this is what XII is trying to promote with its store space, and its own eponymous streetwear brand. Beyond this, they are also giving budding streetwear brands, such as Sammystates, more visibility
Speaking to Konbini about their aim in the fashion industry, the XII team said:
We are offering a space that embraces culture, individualism and style. We offer the best from carefully chosen established and independent brands from around the world.
Our store space also encourages hang-outs, pop-ups, barbecues and exhibitions.
XII will be launching this Friday at 12 Glover Road, Ikoyi. You will have the opportunity to shop carefully curated international brands, such as Kith, Bape, Nike, Adidas, Off-White, Balenciaga, Supreme and many more, as well as a bunch of up-and-coming ones.
