Last year, when we spoke to Teni Adeola, she had just made her label, Slashed By Tia's New York Fashion Week debut, following their first ever runway showcase at Lagos Fashion and Design Week.
Fast forward to present day, Slashed By Tia's instantly recognisable pieces have been worn by several celebrities from Gigi Hadid to SZA earning her a spot on Teen Vogue's 21 under 21 list.
Upon clicking on Slashed by Tia’s Instagram page, you're welcomed by dramatic, ruffled blouses and skirts in sheer fabric and soft pastel colours. This has now become the brand's signature, making it a force to be reckoned with in the global fashion industry.
Speaking to Konbini about the inspiration behind the brand, Creative Director, Teni Adeola said:
"My Nigerian heritage is something I'm very grateful for. I would watch my mum and aunty get dressed in their extravagant clothes when they go to events and it was almost like they morphed into completely different people. You could feel the confidence and grace after they transformed and that's and effect I hope my clothing has."
A year later, this is still very much the brand's ethos, and its clear in the designs they produce.
