Melanin-rich skin comes with its own unique set of challenges, and no one knows better than women of colour what works for women of colour.
The FUBU (for us by us) movement is stronger now than ever, and Nigerians are not exempt from this narrative with the birth of brands such as Epara. Founded by Ozohu Adoh, the aim of this cosmetic line is to provide luxury skincare products for women of colour, with natural ingredients tailored for their skin.
Epara is a luxury skincare brand, handcrafted using organic African ingredients and botanical actives to cater to the specific needs of darker skin tones.
After recently launching in Harrods UK, the high-end skincare brand is launching this weekend in Lagos, at luxury concept store, Alara. Founder Ozohu Adoh spoke to Nataal Media about why she got started:
“Before clothes, jewellery, shoes or makeup, it’s your skin that must first be elegant.
When women of colour use Epara, I want them to look and feel amazing because they know they’ve chosen a brand that is customised especially for them and can go out into the world each day exuding confidence.”
That's right ladies, Epara wants you to ...
Dark skin is disproportionately disposed to excess oil, hyperpigmentation, and acne, therefore it takes a lot more work to find a regimen that works as opposed to a quick fix laden with chemicals that do more harm than good.
The skincare line includes products such as a comforting body cream, moisturing face cream, brightening night balm, hydrating serum and balancing face oil. All these products aim to fight imperfections while subtle, holistic accompanying aromas such as neroli, ylang-ylang and frankincense aim to soothe and pamper the skin.
With Epara, Adoh is ensuring that consumers will not have to settle for one size fits all products that will not suit the needs of their skin.
