Your birthday is the one day in the year you expect to be showered with an unreasonable amount of love and treated a bit (well, more than a bit) better than everyone around you. Your friends and family rush to send you birthday wishes and at least one birthday cake is guaranteed.
Buy a cake, change a life
Everyone deserves to feel special on their birthday, but sadly, this isn't the case for a lot of children in orphanages around Nigeria. And this is where baker and founder of Good Cake Day, Chinelo Awa, comes in.
Good Cake Day is a London-based company which makes bespoke luxury cakes, with a pretty great twist: under her #BuyACakeChangeALife movement, 10 percent of every sale goes towards providing birthday cakes to orphans in Nigeria.
Speaking with Precious Awards about what inspired her to support orphanages, Chinelo said:
"I may not be solving world problems, but in my own way, I feel like I am making a difference.
Birthdays are a very special time. When you are alone in the world, getting a birthday cake goes a long way to giving that affirmation that you are loved and valued."
