There’s no arguing the fact that Nigeria has the best national women’s football team in Africa. Super Falcons proved this fact again on Saturday, as they defeated South Africa in the 2018 AWCON final, becoming Africa’s champions for the ninth time!
While we’re going crazy over the trophy, it’s easy to miss the fact that Nigeria won some other pretty cool accolades, too. But, not to worry, we at Konbini have highlighted the two other things the country achieved at the tournament.
Fan of the Year award
Honestly, what’s a team without the fans? The Super Falcons had the support of their fans right from their opening match, which they lost to South Africa.
However, one particular fan, Kemi Popoola, stood out so much that CAF noticed her. Popoola, who is also the secretary general of Nigeria Eagles Supporters Club, was presented with the 'Fan of the Year' award for her unique costume and creativity.
Two Players in the 2018 AWCON Best 11
You will recall that, barely a week ago, three Super Falcons players were named in the 2018 AWCON Group Stage Best 11. With the tournament over, Nigeria’s Onome Ebi and Tochukwu Oluehi were named in the final Best 11, which is basically a list of the best performers.
