Not to worry, Alex Iwobi hasn’t suddenly dumped football for cooking. A nutmeg is simply when a player successfully kicks the ball between an opponent's legs, and apparently, Iwobi has used that skill extensively this season.
According to football data and analytics company, StatsBomb, he has the highest number of nutmegs completed in the Premier League this season.
Iwobi pulled off five nutmegs, a figure equalled by only West Ham’s Felipe Anderson. For years, we’ve often heard people refer to him as Jay-Jay Okocha’s nephew. While Iwobi might not have his uncle’s goal-scoring ability, it’s a relief to know he’s just as adept at outwitting opponents on the pitch.
In October last year, Arsenal fell in love with the 22-year-old’s nutmegging ability and crowned him the Nutmeg Prince. Right now, going by the statistics at hand, it seems only appropriate to upgrade that title and crown him the Premier League’s Joint-Nutmeg King.
