While the quality of Nollywood movies has thankfully improved over the years, there are still a ton of Nigerians who willfully rush to Iroko TV and Africa Magic to watch the most inept Nollywood movies they can find.
So, if you're one of those people who secretly loves those 'so bad they're good' Nollywood movies – from Blackberry Babes to Beyoncé and Rihanna – this might say something a little surprising about how intelligent you are.

According to a study published late last year in the journal Poetics, the most intelligent people enjoy the dumbest movies. But before you go patting yourself on the back, there's a catch: you have to enjoy these movies ironically (in other words, you actually know they're terrible).
The lead author of the journal, Keyvan Sarkhosh, explained:
"At first glance, it seems paradoxical that someone should deliberately watch badly made, embarrassing and sometimes even disturbing films, and take pleasure in them,
To such viewers, these films are a deviation from the mainstream fare. We are dealing here with an audience one could describe as 'cultural omnivores'.
Such viewers are interested in a broad spectrum of art and media across the traditional boundaries of high and popular culture."
The truth is, you don't have to think a movie is a masterpiece to find it enjoyable; sometimes just watching a hilariously bad film with disappointing sets, poor acting, and an inane script can be as satisfying as watching a technically perfect piece of cinema.
So, if any of your friends wants to judge you for watching all three Beyoncé and Rihanna sequels, just show them this article with a wide grin on your face because...
